Our clients sometimes approached us saying they have lots of domains, want to receive emails on them, but don't need anything more complex. I faced the same issue myself - I like using dedicated domains for registrations on services I don't want bothering me, with a catch-all inbox.
So this idea was born: an easy service that catches everything sent to your domain. Simple interface, no bullshit.
Since I develop this in my spare time just for fun, I thought it'd be nice to share it with others. I won't say "free forever" because anything can happen, but we're not planning to charge for it - maybe we'll add paid features later (like a complete email server). But the basics will stay free.
Finding a free domain name these days is a real struggle! I couldn't find anything I liked for ages.
Finally, I settled on Poste Restante. Your parents or grandparents might know what it means - today's generation doesn't send many letters by post anymore.
Poste Restante is French, literally meaning "mail held". It's the Universal Postal Union (UPU) standard term for mail where instead of a recipient's address, you write poste restante and the post office address, and the mail stays there for pickup.
It's actually pretty handy - like when you need to receive mail somewhere you're just passing through or on vacation. Works at least throughout Europe.
And here, your mail stays with us.
Hell no, that would be beneath us! We don't sell, offer, exchange, or even buy any data.
We're a small company from the Czech Republic providing custom server solutions. We installed our first servers in 2005, 20 years ago.
In our spare time, we develop things we enjoy, and our existing infrastructure handles it just fine.
For 20 years we've been using all sorts of open-source applications, and while we occasionally contribute, we think it's right to give something back ourselves - especially when we enjoy doing it.
We don't. It's free, and it's here to maybe help or make your work easier.
PosteRestante is what it is. No guarantees, no warranties, no nothing. We do backup data, but mainly in case the whole hardware burns down, not for individual recoveries.
Use it sensibly. If you want to store your company's most important data, buy paid email hosting (we recommend Gmail or Titan.email), and forget about us. This really isn't the right service for that.
Consider what you do in PosteRestante as final - we can't restore individual emails you delete from trash, or do deep investigations of whatever.
Very few:
If you hit these limits regularly, you probably need a different solution anyway.
